I am deeply jealous of everyone in this thread going 'oh but that's just fantasy stuff, it doesn't happen in real life!' I too wish I could un-learn that there is a medical practitioner in my very city who will take a patient's pulse and say 'You haven't been getting enough sleep, you need to eat more kale'.
Sadly, she is a real person, who other real people pay real money to speak to. The more you know.

Con artists exist in every culture, preying on superstitions, outdated beliefs, and lack of education. What I object to is the broadstroke implication that an entire culture's practice is just this.

We're not saying "oh it's just fantasy"- we're aware Chinese medicine is real. It's just that OP resents the portrayal of it so much that they also hate it when it's portrayed in the context of a very much fantastical setting where magical "feel your pulse and know all your ilnesses" might actually be feasible considering they have gods, demons and magic pills. Also that all Chinese medicine is a hoax is just as short sighted as saying all homeopathy is - a whole lot of it, sure. The part where, for example, natural remedies etc are actually useful against mild illnesses and are even the basis for "proper" medicine though, for example, isn't stupid.

It's not 'short sighted' to say that homeopathy doesn't work. It's science.

Natural/traditional remedies =/= homeopathy, dumbass.

There is something to be said for the placebo effect in homeopathy which is scientifically proven and does get used in conventional medicine. Also, natural remedies are often a part of homeopathic therapies as well.
