You can block them by...not clicking on their fic? I mean - seriously, if you know you don't like their stuff, then...don't click.

Also, pretty sure you *can* block a particular author.
Two solutions right here: https://www.reddit.com/r/FanFiction/comments/fdgxxk/how_do_i_block_an_author_on_ao3/

Thanks for the info, but this isn't as easy for the person wanting to do the blocking as other websites have it. Ideally a good block feature on ao3 would just be a button that people could click, and not something that people would have to type in manually each time. Especially if I'm entering the main fandom page, and not doing a search, then I would still be seeing fics by authors I don't want to see. A proper block system doesn't exist yet, but it would be as simple as how the "subscribe" function already works.

AO3 isn't a social media platform, I don't see why they have to invest in better blocking features. And there are so many stories hosted there that I often forget the names of authors I actually like and would want to remember, let alone people I don't want to read. Sorry, I really don't get the hardship here. If a subject matter bothers you, block the tag. "Just knowing some people exist bothers me, do something about it!" doesn't sound like an emergency.

The problem is that I want to block the writer, and forget that they exist. I don't want to even see stories that they wrote that is not tagged in a way that I can blacklist. If other people want to read their stuff, cool, but I just don't want to interact period.

And I disagree, fandom can be a very social space. Maybe a person has been harassed by a BNF, and is turned off by them now. It would be nice to not have that BNF's works come up period, for example. Maybe it would be nice to block a couple of authors out of convenience. Instead of committing a list of authors to memory who I'm not particularly bothered by, but will never read their fics (low-quality? their story is good but I don't vibe? spelling mistakes out the wazoo? etc.), a block button would be convenient. The function is already there for blocking tags, and blocking authors should be there too.

Sincerely, without a hint of sarcasm: cry me a river.

Sincerely, this was a solution to remove fuel from "antis" but okay. Block me here if you can. :)

*shrug*
It is what it is. At least you have a couple options now, and I think that the AO3 'savior' isn't something you have to do every time.
