Not to say that it's okay to be all "oh, well, I have these reactions, nothing I can do about it! Might as well go be a racist, sexist ass!" You train yourself to disregard the reactions in favor of something more positive. But people who claim to have "gotten rid of them" make me laugh.

Absolutely! I totally agree with what you're saying. You can't "get rid" of your racist tendencies altogether, but you can teach yourself not to give into them. It's all a test of willpower and mental training.

I love psychology, my mother instilled me with a faith in the subject. ^_^

Exactly! And, tbh, not trying too hard and beating yourself up over it. Because if you do that, then you're going to get negative associations anyway. Just got to learn to individuate. That's the key to getting rid of stereotypes. Or... well, maybe not getting rid of them (they'll likely always be there, due to basic ingroup/outgroup behavior), but getting rid of "stereotype agreeance."

It's so delicious~ It makes it that much easier to deal with morning rush hour traffic when I just think to myself, "Yeah, he's just forgotten to turn on his frontal lobes. Poor guy."
