Let go of her childhood? At the end of the movie she has a giant imaginary goblin party in her bedroom! That's a real crappy way of showing someone letting go of their childhood.

I think you're right, for the most part. The message was that she had to take responsibility for her own life, and live it by her standards and not the standards of the people who wanted to control her. But I also believe that part of the message was that you can do that, you can take that step into adulthood, and still retain elements of your childhood.

i think its both. Yeah the point is that she has to stop living in her fantasy world and stop being a kid. But she's still got the characters in her room in the end because she doesn't necessarily have to be an adult quite yet either. She needed to grow up a little but that doesn't mean she has to leave it all behind either. And to the OP i don't think its THAT weird that you 'shipped it' cos...he's not real, you know? He's like her imagination, its a fantasy. So its okay cos its like a crush on a teacher or something :D Hope that kinda made sense at least.
