Except the song never calls it a problem. "Everyone does it, so it's okay." Please look at the last lines of the song.

Obviously the problem is solved once we acknowledge that we're racist! There's no need to do any further work, guys!

Maybe it's saying that if we stop pretending to be colorblind, we could actually talk about our issues honestly and maybe even resolve some of them.

Oh, I do agree with that. Claiming colorblindness is another symptom of privilege, but this song basically says the problem is solved when we acknowledge we're racist. That's only a step in the right direction. You can't stop there and say "It's over!"

Except the song is not called "Everyone's Racist". It's "Everyone's A Little Bit Racist". It even speaks out against institutional racism and the like. And while the song doesn't condemn "a little bit" of racism as not okay, I do think that a bigger hooplah is made out of things like race jokes than is necessary. Race jokes do not necessarily translate to "I hate colored people". My telling un-PC race jokes in private company do not make me a racist, no matter how offended you may be about it. It's not like I believe that harhar a black guy's gonna come rob me or anything. For me, the humor is more in the shock factor than in race, and it falls in the same category as Holocaust and dead baby jokes.

No, they don't translate to "I hate colored people." They do translate to "I have negative biases or am perpetuating negative biases against people of color through the shield of humor." I do admit that I sometimes laugh at race jokes, but that's a result of both the shock fact as you mentioned and my own privilege.

Joking and humor can be used as an extremely deceptive tool of "normalizing" or marking "the other" thereby forming group solidarity. It's not as harmless as you might think, really.

So... what about people (both POC and otherwise) who make jokes about their own ethnicities? What does that make them?

I honestly can't say as I'm not a POC. As a white person, jokes like that tend to either be a form of group solidarity or a way of poking fun at the idea of racial stereotypes (since whites by and large are lacking as opposed to POC within at least American culture). They can also be further marking of "the other" such as redneck and white trash jokes coming from middle-class East or West Coasters.
