I'm not about to start a quibble with you or anything, but since when is the old adage 'Everyone else does it' a good excuse?

I'm talking about feelings here. I'm assuming that Hidekaz doesn't give a shit about what people on F!S have to say, but given that the art was done not only by a fanartist, but a Western one at that, I think it's just not on. What does copyright have to do anything? It's rude and thoughtless, plain and simple.

I think she means that a Western fanartist either can be asked for permission or stated disapproval for their fanarts being used in a commonly understood language.

I appreciate that you're trying to defend your point by being overly picky about anything that I'm saying, but my point was made in the context of who would be reading F!S. Now, since I included the point of the fanartist being a Western one in the same sentence of 'what people on F!S have to say', I (obviously wrongly) assumed that anyone reading that sentence would come to the conclusion that I was referring to the fact that a Western artist would be more affected by it, but since I apparently didn't clarify it in a satisfactory way, please allow me to clarify it for you now.

I'm assuming that Hidekaz doesn't give a shit about what people on F!S have to say, but given that the art was done not only by a fanartist, but a Western one at that who is extremely likely to be reading F!S, unlike, say, a Japanese fanartist and who will see their work used in a negative way, I think it's just not on.

But, since you're so eager to discuss this, then no, actually. I don't agree with using fanart in general without permission from the artist themselves.

I think using fanart for icons or something like F!S is fine, it's when you go off saying that the art is yours to begin with that it becomes a problem. It's not like the characters belong to the fanartist to begin with, so you could argue that what the fanartist is doing is equally unethical.
