Well when you talk about asexual reproduction in science, you talk about an organism that produces offspring by itself. For example, fermentation is form of asexual reproduction as well as budding, where something identical to the organism buds off the original.

So to me to call people "asexual" is a misnomer because no human can reproduce itself. Asexual means "without sex" in basic terms, but the reason it is without sex is because it does not take two organisms to make offspring. To me it just conjurs images of the Dillbert where someone had a person budding off their forehead. instead of a lack of intrest in sexing it up with someone or a lack of intrest in flying solo :/

yeah, I can see where a lot of people would think of something like that initially when they hear the term. I don't think a lot of people realize it is an actual orientation. Maybe instead of asexuals we should be call NO-mosexuals so it would be less confusing ;)

I think that it's a misnomer for the orientation. It makes it sound like you're only having sex with yourself, when I was under the impression that those who are asexual do not. I always thought that nonsexual might be better nomenclature since asexual is already a scientific term.
