I never understood the Marie bashing since (to me), Marie and Soma are the same person. Marie has always existed, and has always been conscious, if not dominant. I love both sides of the character equally, because both sides are fascinating. Although I'm more concerned with the previous bashing along the lines of "I don't want her getting the guy" o.O

The only thing Marie is guilty of is not having enough screen time, which is... Not really the character's fault. There are twenty seven named characters that are plot relevant, and you won't be able to have them all engage in action on a regular basis. Also, after so much build up to Marie getting back her memories, I really don't believe they'll just discard her like that, especially with half the series left to go through.

The interviews and magazine articles keep going about Marie being essentially a fighter, so what's wrong with being able to fight and choosing not to fight?

I don't think it would be as bad if we saw her choose, but it is one thing to see a character who was once involved in the plot suddenly be pushed into doing menial stuff that has no real significance after switching to another personality, so right now she isn't really that interesting.

But then again, this is part of why I wish that Gundam 00's cast was cut in half because their are just way too many characters and that kind of throws off the pace.

I agree with you there, especially about the size of the cast. I feel that part of the reason we have such a large number of characters so that there are as many point of views as possible as not to fall into the good and the bad camp, but it also has its downfalls, like unbalanced screentime.

I also agree about the uninteresting bit, because if you're not involved in the current plot, you're not really doing anything. On the other hand, that can also be said about a good number of other characters. I just feel that she's uninteresting right now, and it's not something that will last long.

I don't actually believe that all characters deserve the exact same amount of screen time, but I do wish they all had at least consistent characters arc and were at least useful. I am still wondering what Wang Liu Mei is there for.

I think it is more glaring with Soma is that this development is kind of common for female characters, they are doing things and then they get with the guy and suddenly they are put in the back burner until they are then used for said male's plot line, and truth be told that does irk me. Whereas it might not be apparent with male characters.
