101. You're the type of fansubber I enjoy watching subs from. (Particularly since I want to be a writer someday and awkward, badly written translations drive me up the wall.) Please--never, ever change.

129. To be fair, from what I've heard, doujinshi artists in Japan have acctually gotten in trouble for their stuff spreading all over the Internet. I don't understand it when the government turns such a blind eye to it that Comiket is allowed to exist, but if an author asks their work not to be spread around like that, they might have an actual reason, and I do think it's best to respect their wishes when it's known. Otherwise yeah, I agree, it's fanart, when you make fanworks you have to realize you maybe don't have the same rights as someone producing more original legal work, etc, but sometimes these people have a legitimate reason for what they ask.

Yeah, it...really was. Particularly since the person explaining what the original artist had said was being pretty polite, IMO.

When I read this, I was literally just opening up the file to start editing an episode of something, and I'm suddenly even more into it. You have made my higure*.

lol I'm going to go ahead and say rock on as well. I know very little Japanese, but every once in a while I catch some stuff while watching fansubs that drive me nuts.

My other pet peeve is typos or people spelling English proper pronouns incorrectly. I've been watching a terribad dub of Kuroshitsuji for the record.

Whose sub of Kuroshitsuji are you watching?

I'm honestly not sure since I just go to it from a streaming site. It doesn't list the sub group (sadly, as I tend to choose which version I watch based on the group).

But they like spelled character names wrong.

If it's Shinsen-Subs' version (the only one I know of, really), their translation is pretty decent. I know they romanized a character's name as Greil instead of Grell, because they had decided on that spelling before the official translation was released and decided to stick with it for consistency. I haven't noticed any other misspellings. I was curious, since you said they misspell actual English words, what those words were.

I like Shinsen, so I don't think it's theirs, but I'm not sure. That was mostly a general example. But I have seen insane typos in some subs and some bastardizations of English proper nouns. Also hilarious are people trying to spell in German when they use German in the anime (which happens with an odd frequency.)
