And in general - all these "I lose respect" secrets? You devalue the term. Respect isn't something you have for people you don't know, so how in the world would anyone lose your respect? You mean to tell me that you WOULD respect them otherwise (for whatever furry/hetalia/spn/yaoi/wtf-ever thing they should be doing)? That's crazy. Respect should be earned. How can anyone respect random fandom people they've never met?

I assume it's more like if they knew somewhere along the way. But it's sad if such a shallow thing judge if a person deserves your respect, honestly.

I find that if someone says that they lose respect for me for something, it means I wouldn't have wanted their respect in the first place. Prejudiced people suck.

and jesus, why would i care if those people respect me or not? haaaha, what conceit to think that their opinions of others matter to them? you're not their mother, father, brother, friend, significant other, grandma, whatever! no one cares! they're just another insignificant little speck on the internet like the rest of us.

Why not, out of curiosity? I was first exposed to Tolkien when we did an art project on The Hobbit (er, papier mache masks of the characters, nothing very special XD) when I was ten, and I read Lord of the Rings later that summer. I mean, I can understand not reading LotR to a four-year-old, but I reckon older than ten is fair game. Most of my siblings had read it by around the same age, too.

My oldest son is only ten, and while he would read it to himself, we usually have our little family hour together. My middle son is eight, and he's one of those who is simply not going to sit there and be entertained by books unless I can really pull out all the stops (voices, faces, etc., I have to act the entire thing out for him to not just walk away), and my littlest son is seven. It's too much for them right now, as a group.

Aww, okay. In a few years, maybe? And you could try The Hobbit - that was intentionally written as a children's book. It's a lot shorter and has a much easier storyline to follow than LotR, too.

Oh, definitely, it's on the list. If they weren't such typical boys, it'd be easier going, lol, and I wouldn't have to worry about whether they're going to grow out of it before I get there or not, lol. Thank you, btw. :)
