But to some extent, she was a victim, and even if you believe that everything that happened is her own fault (instead of, say, the fault of Gregory, the murderer, or Wendy, who manipulated him into it), it's hardly likely that she did it on purpose. I'm pretty sure she couldn't even remember what happened in the first place... Great circumstances to intentionally play the victim, right?

Anyway, I don't care if people like her or hate her, but calling her an insult to women is kind of missing the point, don't you think? Jennifer was a weak person who couldn't stand up for herself, and when she finally did it was too late. That was part of her character development, and you could argue that she has or hasn't changed. But can't she just be a character that needed badly to grow a spine instead of a representative for all of her gender? It's not like people go around saying that James Sunderland is an insult to men. Seriously, nobody in Rule of Rose is meant to be a role model. Everyone had issues, with the possible exception of Brown. Maybe. Flawed characters are more interesting, and if people had to write female characters as a representative of their gender, then we'd get perfect two-dimensional action girls all the time, which often aren't really characters.

At least she tried to fix it, right?

I definitely see where you're coming from, and yeah, "insult to women" is kind of harsh--I don't really mean it literally so much as saying that yeah, she's not exactly a role model. And certainly Gregory and Wendy play their parts, but the issue I had was that she had, in forgetting everything that had happened, the part of her that did remember and was making the other side relive it played it out as though everyone was against her, when that wasn't the reality of it.

Again, I definitely find Jennifer an interesting character, and I like her! Though I don't believe that she was as much a victim as she tried to play it off.

And, as I random note: I totally think that James Sunderland is an insult to men. XD

Okay. I totally get why people would have problems with Jennifer's character, I just hate how male characters are judged as characters, and female characters are judged as female characters, whether it's because "girls aren't interesting" or "so and so's a shitty role model for women" or what not.

I agree that it wasn't as bad as Jennifer thought it is. Wendy probably did tell the others not to play with Jennifer a few times, but Jenny didn't help herself out any by not playing airship with the others, or by being scared of everything. Though, she was what, nine or something when it actually happened? Everybody's blameless in their own version of how things happened, especially if they're a kid and too young to tell real from not real. (I like Jennifer too. I also like Wendy, so hey, can't critize anyone else's characters that they like.)

One could probably argue that Maria was an insult to women, one that came from James. (I like both of them, too! :3)
