I dunno, I think it differs from person to person. I can forgive horrible art for a series if I love the characters or the writing, but the most gorgeous art in existance will never get me to look past bad writing and characters I don't care about. But I'm way more oriented towards characters than I am even towards plot, and more towards both of those than I am to the art.

[/pointless comments] I do agree with you for the most part, though. If someone, like you, really can't enjoy the story because of the art, it's not like you're just being snobby. If you can't get into it, if the art jarrs you, it's understandable that you wouldn't be able to like the series/movie.

I don't see any reason why a person can't judge by both. My comment was really only addressing the fact that the OP apparently thinks there's something wrong with judging a visual medium by the quality of the art--which seems ridiculous to me. That doesn't mean that everyone has the care particularly about the art, but if you're don't care, you're not really bothered, are you?

I don't think I could watch the prettiest anime in the world if the characters were flat, or the story were bad, but generally speaking, the art is going to be the first thing you see, and it's going to be at least part of what's telling you the story. I don't particularly see a problem with either judgment. It's all just about what any particular person can get into.

Yeah, I don't get the OP on this one -- if something about a canon seriously irks a person and ruins their enjoyment of the canon, then they don't "have" to "get over it" and enjoy it. I think I just commented because my brain spews out stuff even when it's just useless musings. ;; But yes, it is all down to who's doing the watching and judging; some people aren't going to care at all about the art, and I know some people who do watch series just for the animation if it's gorgeous enough, and tune out if they think the story is shite.

On a semi-related note, the art in your icon is really nice. What's it from?
