The only characters that I still get confused by are the Scandinavians. After awhile it becomes easier to pick out distinctive traits of each nation's design. But I think a lot of the similar features comes from the fact that some nations are grouped into "families"? IIRC. USA is the younger brother of the UK? And I think they're related to France and Canada as well. And Belarus and Ukraine are sisters of Russia. Even Hong Kong has the UK's eyebrows. So even though they're different countries, it's a way to show their relatedness and past relations? IDK

While that is true the moe-tan art style also doesn't exactly lend itself to clear differences in character design if you take away the hair styles and costumes. I would be really interested in reading the series, but whenever I try I spent half the time going "Wait, who is that?". OTOH I totally eat up fanart I find of it, especially by ChiraChira as they're all distinctly different people in her art style.

I agree that there is a limited variety in most of the character's facial features, which is a shame given the amazing opportunity the author has with such a multicultural cast. But I think there are some notable exceptions as well. Cuba, Russia, and Turkiye are some of the most interesting characters in terms of design and do break the mold. The girls are all really cute as well.

But I find the lack of variety true about most series, tbh.
