Hell, I tried Twilight, even when I knew it would be bad.

Have a go. I realise it is wrong to tell people not to read it - we must have a justified dislike if we are to have a dislike at all. My main objection is that a teacher figure tells Charlie he's a brilliant writer when the book's written in this hopelessly naive style. That, and the characters all came off as arseholes to some extent, apart from Charlie, who was simply too childlike for me to care about why he was involved with his group of 'friends'. I may have liked it better if it wasn't written from his perspective, but I still thought the book a bit, well, sensational.
