Maybe that was true in 2017 when the anime was hitting its strides, but here in 2020? They've got the power of manga, anime-only movies, and the godly Japanese fandom on their side. So yeah, I'm gonna surmise that the appeal is that as the protagonist and deuteragonist of a long-running series, people expected that their relationship would grow with the story and then it did?

I say that as a TodoBaku main who ain't mad about any of this. At this point the abuse discourse is outdated and more tiring than whatever the fans get up to.
