Are you me?

Seriously lol, secret OP here and this feels like I could have written it. I'm sorry but back when 12-13 year old me was heavily invested in Inu-Yasha I felt like I could read ALL THE SIGNS in the way the series ended and the way Sesshoumaru left things with Rin but people did the same exact thing, "he's LITERALLY her FATHER you sicko" type stuff, and I just sat back and shipped it privately. Years later and adult me is like "I fucking CALLED IT". It's not that these two were IN a romantic relationship, it's that I could see that's probably where it was GOING to go trope wise, once Rin grew up (which is like the blink of an eye to a demon like Sesshoumaru anyway).

Like yes, is this relationship healthy in a 2020 modern setting? No. But neither is 50% of the shit people ship the dickens out of. Take the BakuDeku secret, would Baku and Deku be a healthy relationship IRL? Fuck no. Doesn't stop people from finding that shit UWU KAWAII so why exactly adult!Rin x Sesshoumaru is THE line because he had the absolute gall to meet her when she was younger and he was already a bajiillion year old demon is beyond me. Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember in the 90's/early 2000's this shit being a MAJOR romance trope back when I actually bought random fantasy romance novels off of the Borders bookshelves too, the whole "immortal being falls in love with a human over their lifetime and becomes so enamoured they either turn her into an immortal/become mortal for them" thing? This current fandom climate feels like such a 180 where you're not allowed to like anything lol. Apparently it's "pedophillic" to think adult!Rin grew up and her childhood crush became something more well-rounded and romantic. *Eyeroll*

The reason people are going harder on SessRin fans than other unhealthy relationships is because I've never seen, say, Ciel/Sebastian fans arguing that there's objectively nothing questionable about the ship. An adult making a move on an 8 year old is pedophillic, whether a 12 year viewer realizes it or not, and according to many SessRin shippers, yourself included, the relationship was romantic from the start, it didn't turn romantic when she became an adult. It's ok to kink on an underage ship, but going through mental gymnastics to argue the underage aspect away, while insisting that the relationship was romantic in nature since the girl was 8, is just plain weird.

the person you replied to literally said they didn't see the ship as romantic from the start, but it was 100% intended to be viewed as rin eventually growing up and then engaging in a relationship. you're the only one making the thing weird, dude. crying about people minding their business not pointing out that the ship is unhealthy is purely a you problem. the majority of sessrin fans are not kinking on the underage aspect, they're kinking on the fantasy of a supernatural pretty dude that hates everyone except this one female character, specifically, and the idea they were destined to be together.

it's not that deep. get over it.

The ACTUAL reason people are going "harder" on SessRin fans is because the current fandom climate is crawling with puritanical "think of the children" control freak mindsets, and the show is recent. Antis don't give a flying fuck about Ciel/Sebastian because the entire thing is old news and the fandom is very quiet. That's it. That's the only reason. It has shitall to do with "SessRin fans not questioning the relationship". They're upset that people like it all. Look at any popular fandom from the last 5 years and you will see the exact same shit.
