It was romantic, and they had a whole divorce/domestic break-up arch in the juncture of S14/S15 (they also basically had two kids together), we also had Dean acting like John after he lost Mary after Cas died in S12/13 - then being 100% fine after Cas came back, we got hings like Dean confessing in a confessional that "maybe he wanted to experience feeling.. people... differently than he had before", we had Dean killing himself when Cas was dead and not really caring to come back to look after Sam anymore, so there was... a lot to paint the ending where it should have been reciprocated. Especially when S15 literally textually said that Dean/Castiel and Sam/Saileen were the real thing, when Chuck was messing with the plot.

So... not really delusional.
