Literally came here to say this. If you know anything about mythology (and I know barely anything at all) it's that all these people are cousin-fuckers. It just is what it is.

They are, and I can't say this loud enough, NOT HUMANS. How do you think Chaos birthed Nyx? Do you think they went through nine months of labor? NO. COSMIC BULLSHIT, THAT'S HOW. Do you think Nyx literally labored to have her children? NO. COSMIC BULLSHIT. They have no genetics, they have no actual real flesh or blood. They're physical embodiments of concepts and abstractions.

THEY'RE NOT HUMANS. IT DOESN'T MATTER.

Honestly OT but this is what I can't stand about Supernatural flattening and anthropomorphizing non-humans. All the angels are "brothers and sisters" even though they're a separate and distinct species, so it doesn't make sense. Everybody has to have the same humanoid relationship models and modes of thought. It's so uncreative.

I'm so thankful I got out of the Hades fandom when I did before the waves of drama crashed in. It was awesome back in beta and everyone was super chill. Now, admittedly I'm not into Thanatos/Zagreus simply because there's so much damn fanfic and fanart for it (oversaturation just nonsensically bothers me with any fandom regardless of content) but the fact that people are now seriously bitching about it because of the incest element of all things is hilarious. Hades is directly inspired by the Greek pantheon for fuck's sake, of course it has incest, it would suck as an adaption if it didn't at least hint at it.

Honestly if you ignore/block the antis the fandom is super chill and people are just having fun. But yeah, a looooot of Thanatos/Zagreus which I cannot blame anyone for, it is such a breath of fresh air, having a canon gay romance in a game every now and then.

As someone who IS squicked out by incest fics, especially those who grew up together... it has more to do with what's allowable in-universe here. Like, it's freaking Greek mythology. It's incest all the way down.

to be fair, there isn't actually much gay incest. it's pretty much incest for the sake of kids (or thematic births of cosmic ideas, but births regardless and therefore het), that's going to be het incest.

M/M relationships were about brokering power (i.e. elevating humans), there's literally no social reason for it to be inter-familial. F/F barely even "exists" as such, so forget incest. The trans mythic beings are there to be transgressive rather than sexual, and no incest.

Strictly speaking for Greek Mythology, M/M incest is taboo for gods and considered insulting (all incest is taboo for humans, but that's not the subject). It would depend on the game version I suppose.

Not that it'd bother me (again, Greek mythology lmao), but from their interactions - and I'm pretty far into the game - I don't get the sense they ever really thought of each other as brothers tbh. As if everyone always knew something was up even before Zagreus found out.

Hades is the one fandom where i have yet to witness the amount of anti bullshit that I've been subjected to in other fandoms. People who cause shit are promptly laughed at until they leave.

I think that the Than/Zag relationship is interesting because the game frames it as them not being raised as brothers. It states that Nyx raised them apart and that they are childhood friends.

So they have a canon explanation for why it's not problematique. It's almost like they want to be mad for zero fucking reason.

If you'd like the best view of the game from beginning to end I'd highly recommend Dexbonus' playthrough. She's been playing the game since early access last December. She's really great at the actual gameplay and loves exploring all the lore as well. The first 15-20min of this playthrough will let you see how the whole game works.
