Oh, so that's the "decades old mystery" that was solved on the Mandalorian. I was curious, but not curious enough to Google. Thanks!

How is that a "decades old mystery?" How ridiculous. No mystery. He was dead until they decided he wasn't.

It's still an in-universe mystery even if the out-of-universe explanation isn't mysterious at all

There was a short story of nebulous canon-ness about him getting out of the pit and surviving, that was published in the 90s, in one of the short story collections. I think it was retconned later on when they decided to make up a new background for him. Iirc his jet pack explodes down in the hole and damages the sarlacc enough that he's able to be rescued by some ally of his. I forget what happens after that. I guess it's all been de-canoned anyway.

SA

Yes, I was aware of that one. But it was Legends, and so thankfully not canon. But for some strange reason they've decided to somehow now make him surviving canon. And I think it is a stupid idea. It was stupid when the EU did it, and it is stupid now.

I mean...it wasn't really solved as such. They don't explain how he's alive. He just kind of shows up.

I don't mind it, personally (maybe I'm just glad when Disney content actually acknowledges the prequels which they did here by having Temuera Morrison play him and have Boba's father, Jango, mentioned.)
