(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)Although it has so many other problems, I thought that Once Upon a Time dealt with a similar issue in a much better way. Realizing that you've actually already become friends with your now-adult daughter doesn't remove the need to grieve for missing out on her childhood. And in OUaT, the reveal definitely has an impact on their current relationship, whereas I felt like the dynamics in Doctor Who just went back to normal.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-05 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)I think the storyline in Doctor Who could've worked if they'd given it the emotional weight that it needed (especially after we found out that the reason Amy and Rory separated was because the people who'd kidnapped their daughter had also sterilized Amy), but they just didn't and it left an awful taste in my mouth.
