Oh totally, and if they had used the lore from any of those, I would understood finding angel characters left-field. But they didn't, they used catholic exorcisms in latin, which are very much about God in Christianity (not even a judeo-christian amalgamation), and never once implied that christians were extrapolating from pagans or something.

I always took it as religion was a cultural interface with these beings which were homogeneous but perceived differently by each religion. And that an exorcisms power came from the spiritual power and intent of the exorcist.

That's just how I took it, not saying that's what they were going for.

I don't think that tracks with how specifically the show described them. Like if a being was the object of several different mythologies, that would be mentioned and either the defeating strategy was synthesized from each or the various methods were used until one worked. but that they were the subject of many mythologies was mentioned if it was relevant. and I think the show explicitly rejects the cultural interface theory, in that beings which were only the subject of one mythology could only be defeated by understanding that mythology, even if extrapolated into modern terms, tho maybe that was later on.

that was never true for demons. the texts were always catholic or christian, holy water was always blessed over a rosary, consecrated ground was always church ground, exorcisms were always church latin, naming god to find a demon? the christian version, not the jewish or muslim names of god ever. there was simply no ambiguity. honestly now that you mention it, this was kinda offensive.
