Bit Weird This Happened Twice Today...

Literally earlier today I listened to a podcast in which one of the podcasters described the fandom as "incredibly horny" and then later I read secret number 4. (These aren't the first times I've seen the sentiment by far, it's just surprising to me it happened twice.)

Is it weird of me to not be surprised when a fandom is 'incredibly' horny?

I feel like fandoms are in a general sense pretty horny. Lots of porn and casual fantasizing about characters going around. I miss those thirsty picspams.

No. It's not weird to be surprised. A considerable part of fandom was originally birthed from the sexually repressed loins of our ancestral fanmothers.

Some fandoms are definitely hornier than other fandoms.

And it's also a question of ratio. Some really large, mainstream fandoms might have a ton of incredibly thirsty fans who, nevertheless, make up a comparatively small percentage of the overall fandom.

Strongly seconding this. I'd never been surprised by how horny a fandom was before, and I'd been in some of the really massive fandoms, so I figured I'd seen it all. Then I got into a medium sized pairing that had a much more ethically dubious dynamic than all my previous ships had, and the fandom for that pairing is just...wow. SO horny. And SO into kinks that, in most other fandoms, are fringe kinks.

Yeah I agree it's not surprising either.

It's like whenever anyone mentions fanfics or creating one, people usually instantly assume that it's going to be a ship fic and maybe moreso a smut fic.

Nah. I think most fandoms are. At leads most in my experience. Granted I can find gen fics, as well as less smut focused fics, but man the majority of things I have tend toward the thirst...
