I remember when it was announced that BSG was going to make Starbuck female, I was skeptical. It was an unusual choice at that time, it wasn't like everyone was doing gender swapped casting. So it kind of seemed weird and gimmicky. Then Kara Thrace turned out to be a phenomenal character, in a show full of phenomenal characters, and BSG was mind-blowingly good. It was like, well okay, my bad.
