I agree with this. Sometimes I think you have to consider what would make sense for the character if ratings weren't an issue... which they wouldn't be in fic.

Or take anime. Yes, the Japanese language doesn't contain as many colorful profanities as such, buuuut when you consider the fact that this character seems to have never heard of keigo and would probably be a social pariah if they existed IRL, the translation should probably pepper in some cursing.
