My country (not us) has new record highs in terms of new and active daily cases and deaths, the icus stsrt filling up and politics is like "nah, schools gonna stay open, lockdown maybe after Christmas"

HOW MANY DAILY DEATHS ARE ACCEPTABLE AS A SACRIFICE HUH
i really start to not be able to deal with that shit.
even a lockdown wouldnt change anything for me bc i work essentials so i have to go out and use public transport and i am SO scared to catch it.
meanwhile friends are think about how many folks to invite for Christmas.

I'm a retail worker and I just found out I'm being laid off at the end of the month and honestly I'm relieved, I'm sick and tired of being around idiots who think this is a GREAT time to go recreational shopping!

What the actual fuck is wrong with people.

Among other things, they're being told that not going shopping will make all the retail shops go out of business and cause all the poor shop owners and their employees to lose their jobs right before Christmas.

I know the feeling in a UK context. I'm so annoyed that Scotland went along with the UK-wide plan to relax everything for 5 days over Christmas. Yes, some people were going to break the rules and it's good that those who live alone have options but now plenty of people who might've been cautious are talking about inviting loads of folk round because it's allowed now. And there's families saying they won't stick to three households or less because they have more than two grown up children with grandchildren.

But I guess what else could we do? Any time Scotland has tried to be more cautious the screams in the media of crap like "Devil Incarnate Nicola Sturgeon BANS THE ENGLISH* from holidaying in Scotland" when all that was mentioned was that unessential trips over the border might be looked at.

(* I AM English and haven't been down to see my family since February so everyone moaning about our measures can quite frankly stfu anyway.)

I wish governments were far less shitty than this. Why the fuck is it so hard to put the system on hold for a few months? Oh yeah, I forgot, greedy assholes for whom a billion dollars is never enough.

Oh hey fellow essential public-transit taker! Yeah, this sucks. My area has a "lockdown," but retail and government stuff are still open at reduced capacity. Basically only bars and restaurants are closing.

I get rides with coworkers sometimes on the iffy assumption that it's maybe slightly better to spend 30 minutes in a car with one masked person that I'm already exposed to for 8 hours a day anyway, than an hour with 10-20 people who don't/can't keep their distance and often refuse to wear masks in a stuffy bus or trolley without windows that open.

I got a ride this week with someone who plans to defy the lockdown order this weekend for a haircut. Previous "but I have to!" selfishness on their part included at least one massage. I dunno if she wears a mask when she's not at work.

But still, better the devil I know, maybe. Idk.

I feel you, anon. I'm in the US in Northern California and our case numbers are higher than they've ever been, the hospitals in my area are nearly full to capacity (they've started setting up treatment areas in tents in parking lots), and everything has shut down again. On my evening walk the other night I noticed much less rush hour traffic, which is good, but throughout my state people act like everything's normal and infections are going up. Its beyond frustrating.

I spent four hours yesterday at the dentist getting temporary crowns on all my top front teeth. It is almost 5AM and I'm awake and in pain, so I checked back to see if the post went up.

Not bad. Finally had a scan and no cancer was found so i'm relieved but also thinking what the hell is it then? Honestly, we think modern medicine is omnipotent but it's only a hop skip and a jump from the dark ages.

Congrats on being cancer free! That's awesome news. But yes, modern medicine is so amazing in some areas, but there are still so many things we don't know.

I think the advances made in modern medicine are amazing, but yeah, it will always be a work in progress. It is called a "practice" after all.

I hope whatever you have is either nothing pretending to be something (like stress effects), or at worse, something minor and easily handled pretending to be something worse.

I got some proper 7(ish) hours of sleep which is awesome! For 2 weeks now I've been getting only 3-4 hours of sleep.

Our washing machine is busted and the repair guy covered by the warranty can't come by til the 23rd. I took a batch of mine and the rest of the family's stuff to the nearest local launderette. The dryer had made them smell bad and I gave myself a dumb anxiety attack thinking that I had somehow contaminated the clothes; worrying that everyone was going to get sick because I accidentally chose the warm wash instead of hot wash option.

So now I'm trying to find out another launderette and trying to work up the motivation to write & send some xmas card before Monday.

What would you like to see as a musical?

After finding out that there was nearly an English Death Note musical, I've been thinking about animes as musicals - mostly Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist.

Also a Hobbit musical based on the first movie just for fun.
