What is probably not quite clear from this secret is that I don't really have any beef with Xion's actual portrayal at all... because I have no way of knowing what that actually will be. I have a problem with the influence she will have (or already has) on the fandom, as the incoming Other. I think it's nice that you've taken the time to try and come up with a meaningful role for her character. Personally, I have never been excited about her introduction into the game's canon, so you'd have to understand if I can't share the enthusiasm.

I do. Issues that can only be solved by a quick infusion of AWESOME. And only seeing Mickey going all out in a fight can cure me of that.

Now, I understand where you're coming from. You're afraid Xion is going to make a lot of people spout out kneejerk reactions and acti without thinking, and one thoughtless act will need to another and before you know it you have a massive wankwar. But is the best solution to mindless hate really just MORE mindless hate?

I can dig that you're not excited, since let us be honest: a blatant ret-con like this stinks of lazy storytelling to me, and that does not bode well for the overall quality of the work here. But I will hold out hope that they can do something decent with this story, and until I can judge that for myself I will hold my peace. I strive for dignity, or at least dignified distance, in most of my fandom discussions. To jump on the hate-train is not, in my opinion, a dignified reaction, and doesn't really help anyone.

Coming up with different roles other characters can play is a bit of a hobby of mine. I'm already having ideas for how Luxord and Demyx could be in this game, and even if these ideas are unlikely to come true, at least it's an interesting thing to flex the creative muscles with.

Different anon than before, but I am interested in your ideas for how Luxord and Demyx could be portrayed in the game. Care to share?

Oh lord, sorry this is so late, LJ crashed.

Most of my ideas come about due to… well, a little bit of a counterreaction to most of fandom’s portrayal of these characters. This relates more to Demyx than it does to Luxord, but still.
Luxord is the great blank slate of the organization in my POV, even more so than Lexaeus. Xaldin? Had more lines and a distinctively creepy behaviour. Xigbar? Quirky accent and seems to know a lot of ”behind the scenes” stuff. Saix admiraion of Xemnas and lament at the end of his life… heck, Lexaeus, by virtue of his stoic, silent demeanour, can be said to have a more fleshed out character than Luxord. Luxord has almost nothing. He acts a little smarmy and laidback and talks about gambling. Even his deathscene is very resigned, compared to the others in the ”young guard”. These factors is what makes him interesting. There is barely enough there to pick out a character, so there is much that can be done to develop him. Simply put: despite having so little to him, I like Luxord.

And that is why I would like to see him portrayed in a semi-sort of positive way. I’m thinking Balthier-esque rogue, not enough of a wildcard to forego the rules ala Axel, just wild enough to make decisions that would make "the game" more interesting, etcetra. Since 358 Days seems to be largely about the 'awakening' of Roxas, Axel and Xion into what we know them as, and the org’s reactions it isn’t entirely unlikely that someone like Luxord, a gambler, would feel drawn to such a high-risk situation. I’m thinking of him taking on an almost 'mentor'-like role, passing on his teachings on how to take risks and challenge fate and generally poking and prodding these strange little children who make him feel like 'existance' is exciting again and maybe, just maybe, grow a little bit fond of them.

Demyx, then. I know that Demyx is often seen as the lighthearted, most quirky and laidback of the organization. I would take him to darker places. Not ramp up the angst or make him secretly evil, no. I like Demyx as he is, but I would subject him to things that would be very trying for someone like him in a place like the Organization. Because Demyx has shown he can get very serious when he wants to, push him too far and he pushes back. I can see him wanting to befriend Roxas and Xion because they’re young, they treat him nicely enough, maybe listen to his theories on how they so have hearts, and he likes that they listen and how they actually, reallyd o seem to have hearts! They too have feelings, and isn’t that good? Isn’t that what we always wanted?

But the upper echelon doesn’t see it that way. They think Xion is creating a rift, planting seeds that must not sprout and they are RIGHT. As things go more and more pearshaped Xigbar, who by virtue of his own quirky habits is Demyx’s favorite ”older guard” Nobody, the one he has the easiest to relate to (Xigbar makes fun of HIS hair and... it’s seriously creepy the way he’s watching Aurora sleep) approaches him one day. He knows how long they’ve worked for their hearts, right? Of course you do, you’re a teamplayer and you’re doing pretty darn good there kid! No, honest. You’re part of the team, you get where we're coming from, what we wanna do... but Xion, she just don't get that. Way she's acting, everything we’re working for could get totally wiped out. You know what I’m saying? Say goodbye to hearts, goodbye to this ’life’… goodbye to everything. So whadda ya say, she trusts you... you could just tell her to go to this one place, you wouldn't even have to be there, we’ll take care of it. You’re doing it for all of us...

And Demyx does it. He sells hero ut, because he's scared. He's insecure, he's not like Axel who just burns through everything and doesn’t care what gets in his way, he's not like Luxord who never loses his cool, he can't do that... he just wants his heart back... and she's putting them all in danger, even Roxas! Roxas’ll understand, they can’t let her get away with all this... it’s nothing personal, it’s just to get their hearts back...

Bam. Tragedy, betrayal, moral ambiguity… all the good stuff we know and love. Dark, but not dark enough Disney wouldn’t approve. That’s what I’d do.

Not really. It's more that I just find her entire existence unnecessary, and there is nothing in her actual character that can really change that. In any case, dignity is nice, but since I already use up my reserve of that sentiment for fellow fans, I allow myself to consider characters fair game.
