LMAO! Same! I was 22 when I got my first cell phone. But I always get distracted when I see old tech (unless it's purposeful to the plot).

The weirdest movie to watch is The Snowman which only came out in 2017 that is supposed to be a modern setting and yet their fancy police tech is like janky ass huge 1997 laptops.

"The Evisynch" machine! You can record and upload audio files and photographs! It will revolutionize policing!

.... you mean like a tablet?

Maybe that's all the police department could afford lol

AYRT
The movie hyped it up as amazing tech to revolutionize the police dept. It's an amazingly hilarious film that takes itself super seriously.

I really need to give it a watch, as I have heard nothing but bad things.

It doesn't bother me too much. But my dad still uses a flip phone, so I'm used to seeing one all the time.

The last scene of "My Best Friend's Wedding" cracks me up for this reason - Rupert Everett walking through the crowd talking on the mobile, delivering romantic lines... into a phone half the size of his head! It's so distracting, oh my god.

That was back when phones had antennas you would pull out!

I didn't get one until 26 (in 2006) and while I was going to say I don't get distracted by old tech in media, I think I actually do if its 90s-00s phones and computers. Older than that and I can write it off as "lol old." One exception where I will get distracted regardless is when it's supposed to be ~*the future*~ and everything is so dated in pure concept (unless it's done in a stylish way like 60s Star Trek).

I still want a razr.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-13 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
My best friend was the first one in our friend group to get a cell phone when we were in high school. Her phone was a red Razr and a part of me still thinks it’s the coolest phone ever made.

Honestly, I completely agree! When there were rumours about them re-releasing the phone I was so over the moon about it... Unfortunately that didn't pan out, so I'm gonna be left Razr-less for the next forever or so. ):

Eh.

I still use a flip phone.

But it can be kind of disconcerting when technology has really accelerated past whatever they used when everything else in the movie/show is fine.
