I haven't seen the movie, but I shipped them in the Haunting of Hill House story and I'm a little pressed they made them sisters in the Netflix series. :P

They still made Theo a canon lesbian

I mean, it's a pretty significant subtextual dynamic in the original book, isn't it? So I get where it would be coming from

Yeah and IMO it's really easy to see in that version of the movie too. it's been way too long for me to comment on the original film though.

Same, OP. Same. I rewatched the movie recently and came out of it shipping them.

It's one of the few things that adaption actually got right from the novel imo, because you can definitely read it that way in the book.

I'll be honest and say I know this adaption is complete trash but I'm a sucker for haunted house stories so I still kinda love it. Despite the bad CGI even for the time. Would definitely recommend the other adaptions (film and series) and the book over this one though.

Yeah, when I read the book I was surprised how much of Theo being a lesbian was right there in text, not just subtext. Nell, more subtext, but it's definitely there.

I shipped them hard in the book, so now I wanna see this movie.

Watch the original 60's movie, it's much better and still kept in the Theo/Nell subtext.

Thanks for the suggestion, nonny! I’ll check it out.

It's the common ship for the book so it's not very surprising you feel that way.

That lowkey subtext is supposed to be there, actually. From the book to nearly every interpretation since... well, except for the tv series. That'd get a little weird.
