it's like the others have said. he's not endearing to me as a character and it bothers me a LOT that at first, he made it sound like the sole reason he pulled dean out of hell was to have him stop sam from going evil when we still haven't seen any evidence that he has or will. in that episode, he and uriel represented the worst part of christianity - condemning someone for something they couldn't help (sam being given demon blood) and for what they might do (granted, sam was using his powers, but he was using them for good and trying to make the most of a bad situation). i also have issues with the amount of acclaim he's been getting - not just from the fandom, but from everyone involved with the show. it doesn't feel deserved.

i'm being long winded in this. bottom line, he doesn't impress me as a character and besides pulling dean out of hell, he hasn't done nearly as much for the show's story as character like ruby and bobby have. and as far as we know, jim beaver still hasn't been offered cast regular status and they wouldn't give it to katie cassidy. i've got nothing against misha personally, but why should he get cast regular status when they wouldn't give it to others who deserve it more?

I don't like him either, but I can answer the question as to why he’s being made a regular. Just follow the sound of the irrational squeeing of thousands of fangirls. It’s the 99.9% of the fandom that thinks he’s omgsohott!!!!!one! and all the ‘eye sex’ they think he’s having with Dean. Who cares about plot and characterization when there’s the hot angel and the eye sex and his handprint is on Dean’s arm omgforever!!! so they're totally made for each other! That’s one of the reasons I gave up on the show. There's tons of pretty guys in the world. I watched this show for the plot which, sadly, has long since left the building in favor of fanservice, gratuitous sex scenes, and vague promises of 'wait and see'.

which makes the fandom just as sexist as they claim the show to be - they're all ready to accept castiel as a regular when he's contributed WAY less to the show than ruby, who's widely hated by the fandom, has because he's sooooo pretty.

i don't know. i feel like the show has gotten stronger in some ways and weaker in others. introducing the angels to the plot has so far been one of the big things that have contributed to it getting weaker.
