130. I can’t stand him either. All he does is pretty much stand around and stare. He’s added zero to the plot except gaping holes. Biblical angels imply a biblical God. An omnipotent, omniscient God who can pull Dean out of hell, but not only can’t stop Lilith with a single smite, but doesn’t even known which seals she’s after? Please. Unless God is slipping in His old age, it just does not compute. God would already know all of this was going to happen and have stopped it already without Sam, Dean, or Dean’s speshul destiny. He’s God. So sorry, Cas, but you are one part deus ex machina (to get Dean out of hell when Kripke wrote himself into a corner) and one part big gaping plot hole.

I wish people would lighten up, too. In the immortal words of Spike, history is not people being nice to each other. Everybody’s ancestors were crappy to someone else’s ancestors. People suffered and died, often needlessly and for ridiculous reasons. But unless you have a time machine, nothing will change that. If people want to get pissed off about something, there are plenty of current problems to get worked up about and which need fixing that don’t involve comics featuring anthropomorphized countries. It’s fiction. If you’re offended, don’t read it.

exactly! this is another reason i have a problem with them having introduced angels and god into the storyline. i don't know. i have faith that kripke's gonna make it work somehow, but i wish he'd been able to find another way to get dean out, because i'm really not liking the angel's addition to the story.

Oh come on. If you want to do that whole "Biblical" God thing, then Dean would never be pulled out of hell and it would be the Sam and Ruby show. God doesn't interfere with any free-will for humans. You got yourself into hell, you stay in there. Better yet, this show wouldn't even have a mytharc. Considering Azazel (YED) is a fallen angel in the bible, if we followed biblical terms then he would never be walking earth. *No* demons would be walking the earth (and they most certainly not be trying to redeem themselves)

If this show followed every religious or mythological reference ever put on the show then this show wouldn't last two episodes. You want something that follows religion to the extreme, why not read the bible?

Whether Castiel has added anything to the plot, you're right, he's only added Dean into the mytharc. That's such a horrible thing, how dare he! Sam's the only one allowed to be speshual!

To the OP, you hate Castiel because he added plot holes? Why the hell do you like Anna then? She's a walking plot hole of doom. "I was sad I couldn't feel anything, so I was sad, so I cut out my grace (technically her fault for adding that word to SPN dictionary) so I could fall to earth (I threw up in my mouth) so I could be sad. Now I'm happy.. being sad."

If your going to hate characters for their plot-hole and the beings they are, at least be consistent in that hate.

Did the show need *angels* to suggest God? Didn't already have demons and hell and Latin incantations? The show's always had a Judeo-Christian base as far as I could see.

Granted I love Castiel, but I don't see how he added any plotholes. If you hold it against God for not being able to fix all this quickly, well, that's a plothole in Christianity as well. It's *full* of times where God would rather something not happen but he ~~won't~~ can't stop it. It's central to the belief system in a lot of ways.

Short answer: God works in mysterious ways and don't presume to tell him he's using his angels wrong. Whatever is happening is all part of his plan. (Including, I suspect, all those doubts Castiel has--especially after having been introduced to Dean.)

i liked anna better before we knew she was an angel, if that makes any sense, but i still like her better than castiel.

my main problem with castiel is the fact that he doesn't add much to any of the episodes he's in. he does big things - pulling dean out of hell, sending dean back in time, and so on - but aside from that, his main job seems to be to show up, say something cryptic about what dean's supposed to do and what he has to stop sam from possibly doing, and be attractive. that, to me, doesn't warrant the amount of love he's gotten as a character. and i think it's bullshit that he's being considered as a cast regular should the show get renewed when characters/actors who have done a lot more for the show, as far as we know, still haven't been made that offer, or were fired from the show when that offer had already been made.

I liked Anna too before they made her whiny selfish angel of chocolate cake and sex.

Oh, and what other side-character do such amazing things? Bobby? I wish! Ruby? Besides lisp?

What has Castiel done so far? Pull Dean out of hell, informed the viewers about Lilith and Lucifer, sent Dean back in time and helping us know Mary's connection to the YED and getting Dean to know about Sam, making it clear that Angels are preparing for Dean as a leader figure, show that God is unmerciful when it comes to fallen angels.

Quite a bit for the 25 minutes he's had so far.

Cast-regular? Oh please! So bad they want to insure an actor is going to be around so they won't have to suddenly kill him off (Hendrickson) recast him (Ruby) or make him disappear (Ellen and Jo). Like we need more WTF moments. Regular does not mean every-fucking-episode in any show.

And where the fuck do you get your information? What do you mean fired from the show when the offer had already been made? No person has been fired from the show besides Cohan (who's character was vehemently hated) and Cassidy because she was asking for too much money. The rest of those characters who fans wanted to be made into regulars had gotten offers from other, well-paying shows. Jim Beaver (Bobby) got offered regular, and turned it down because he had obligations to other shows.

I don't even like Castiel that much, I'm more meh about him. But some people hate him for the stupidest reasons ever (Like, OMG SAM NEEDS TO BE FRONT AND CENTER! KILL CASTIEL!)

So yeah, you flawed logic is flawed. I also don't think you really have the right to tell people what does and does not warrant a characters popularity, since you don't really seem to know why everyone likes him.

I think you totally missed the point.

It's PRECISELY because history is full of fucked up events that a cute comic making light of all that squicks me. It doesn't really offend me but I find it childish and dumb enough to not even bother with the series. I DON'T HAVE TO LIKE IT
