How is it sexist? The female characters are strong in their own right, which you'd know if you cared to actually look at the comic you're bashing. Hungary is a particularly good example; she's perfectly capable of taking care of herself, and does, often. In fact it's Austria, her husband, who has to accept help from her against characters like Prussia, so you can call sexism all you want, but it's bullshit if you do.

'Offensive' is a very subjective term, so I can't address whatever it is you mean by that, but I also don't think you can accuse Hetalia of being 'racist'. Hetalia goes out of its way to show the good qualities of every country along with the bad ones. You can say it's biased towards Europe, but that's because it was originally about the World Wars, and countries that had little/nothing to do with that aren't included yet - big deal. The author is adding in new countries all the time, it's not like the character list is static. There aren't just white characters, either, which is another protest people are fond of making. Just because you never bother to even GLANCE at Hetalia before hating on it, doesn't mean that Cuba, Egypt and Seychelles (ooh, what do you know, another girl who can stand up for herself perfectly well!) don't exist.

Hetalia is not breeding racism in the masses, by the way. Plenty of the fandom are becoming MORE interested in other cultures after reading Hetalia, and the way the countries are depicted – as being answerable to their leader, whether they agree with them or not (for example, Germany being forced to annex Austria against his will) – leads people to a greater appreciation that no country, no body of citizens is bad – but they can have bad leaders, which are what you should be hating. For all the outsider bashing, Hetalia is inspiring just the OPPOSITE of what you accuse it of being.

And...fetishization? I don't even know what you MEAN by that. Apart from occasional innuendo, there's no sex in Hetalia, and beyond a couple of exceptions (the marriage between Austria and Hungary, for instance), the countries don't enter into romantic relationships with each other.

Or are you another one of those people getting butthurt about the kink meme? A kink meme is a kink meme, they all have weird stuff in them, and it's hardly a good way to judge a whole fandom. Plus, the countries in Hetalia are characters before they're countries - they're distinct people with distinct appearances and personalities, and requesting a rape scene between Japan and China isn't any different from asking to see any other two characters in any other fandom in a rape scene. People have rape fantasies; deal with it. Maybe there are genuinely sick people on the meme, but, as I said earlier, you find that in EVERY KINK MEME FOR EVERY FANDOM, it's hardly something specific to Hetalia.

Either way, it seems to me like you've just jumped on the 'Hetalia-hate' bandwagon without even bothering to look at what you're getting offended about. If you're offended by it supposedly 'making light' of war, I suggest you go and protest about shows like 'Allo 'Allo as well. And as for it being racist and sexist, well, you would maybe understand why it isn't, IF you bothered to examine further than 'ONOES A COMIC ABOUT REAL LIFE COUNTRIES AS PEOPLE, THIS IS A TRAVESTY !!!!11!!1!'.

The amazing thing about all of this wank is that it comes from outside the fandom. The fandom is a welcoming place where people respect each other; there are no ‘shipping wars’ or ‘canon vs. fanon’ arguments or anything like that. All of this points directly to the fact that the haters…are probably not getting the picture, here. One dodgy request on a kink meme does not a rabid fandom make, and you can whine about how ‘offensive, racist and sexist’ Hetalia is all you like, but fandoms for books and shows that are ACTUALLY offensive in how they portray war get none of this shit.

It’s time people grew up; I can understand perfectly well if people don’t like Hetalia – maybe they don’t like the art, or they don’t think it’s funny, or they just aren’t interested – but using flimsy excuses like ‘oh well it’s obviously sexist’ – when it really isn’t – doesn’t cut it.
