Re: how the table turns

Fun fact: The rest of the world doesn't interact with individual Americans. We interact with the government YOU ELECTED to represent YOUR INTERESTS.

Also I don't recall an argument about not judging a country based on its government, just on not judging a country on racial stereotypes. I'm not sitting here calling Americans big dumb white fatties after all. I'm saying that you've generally fucked over the entire world in the name of your own self-interest. So Joe Shmoe didn't want to invade Iraq, boo hoo, it still happened because your government made it happen so take some responsibility.

And yeah, the average American IS more privileged than the majority of the world. Accept it.

The fun part is that everything about Hetalia is colored as nationalistic, simply due to the nature of the series itself.

The fact that people are puzzled that this leads to conflict is anyone's guess.

"My country's not a pussy!"
"What, are you saying mine is?! It isn't!"

You know that elections works in a certain way right? Last time I remember that I wasn't eligible to vote the first time around nor I voted for Bush the second time around.

Then why keep blaming every American for it? Nearly half didn't want Bush a second time, and didn't want to start a war. But key word: nearly half doesn't cut it here. Do you have a right to be pissed at Bush? Yes. Do you have a right to blame our fucked-up government? Yes. You even have a right to blame the people who voted for Bush the second time around. But to blame every American for this shit is unreal. To say every American is more privileged than everyone in the world is equally wrong.

All the responsibility I could claim is to acknowledge that the war, like all of them, is stupid, educate anyone who thought it was a good idea in a first place and protest against it (which sadly enough, the bureaucrats are making it hard for everyone across the board).

On average, Americans are more privileged than people in other countries. The other person is trying to argue that, on a case by case basis, an American might not receive so much more privilege, especially in comparison to citizens of other developed countries, that it would distort their way of thinking and blind them to the problems of the world.

I think it is precisely your refusal to see the United States as more than what their government displays to the rest of the world that makes it so easy to perpetuate this animosity, which, I'll be frank, is less than useless. Instead of appealing to those Americans who are willing and able to support international cooperation for conflict resolution, you are content to sit and berate the entire country, which isn't going to do much in terms of getting the US government to amend their foreign policies, as can be seen from their track record in a number of previous incidents, in every single one of which the US underwent heavy criticism and pressure from every corner of the world. In fact, if you have been following the current Middle Eastern conflict, you will see that shaming the US into action is exactly what the UN has been trying to do, and it isn't going terribly well.

Finally, what Hetalia is and isn't has been up for debate for going on several weeks now, but if one thing is clear, it's that nature of the series means that anyone taking offense for the depiction of any one country is missing the point.
