I only ever support people on Patreon because I believe in them as artists, not because I expect some particular product out of them. That's what being a patron means.

If I want a particular product out of someone, I buy the product when they make it available. That's what being a customer means. Or a subscriber, if you're paying because you want something delivered periodically.

So I don't care if they achieve the uploads they promised. I usually don't even pay any attention to that.

But if you do care, you might as well stop supporting the people who are disappointing you. It's OK to prefer working via a customer / subscriber model.

This is my understanding of Patreon, yeah. Same with Kickstarter--I'm paying for something, sure, but not an immediate or even equivalent exchange (and usually the lowest tiers anyway because I'm not made of money, just have some to spare now and then)
