109 - How horrible, yet I can't help but laughing. The post you're talking about, not the secret.

158 - Did it say in the books that Narcissa was supposed to be beautiful? All I recall is that she looked stuck up.

Side note: I'm so happy she isn't what fandom considers beautiful (she looks pretty to me, but that's not the point). It makes me smile when fandom gets their panties in a bunch over something petty.

I could very well be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that in Goblet of Fire, when meeting her for the first time at the Quidditch World Cup, Harry thinks something along the lines of that she would be beautiful if she didn't look like there was permanently an unpleasant smell under her nose.

The only thing that REALLY bothers me about the way they did her up for the character is her hair...

The whole damn family is PLATINUM BLONDE. Where's the brunette hair coming from???

She isn't a Malfoy, though, she's a Black. The Malfoys might be platinum blonde, but Bellatrix and Andromeda both had dark hair. It wouldn't surprise me if Narcissa did as well. (In fact, that's the only way it actually makes sense! If Bellatrix has black hair and Andromeda brown, where the hell is the blonde coming from? o.o)

Recessive trait. Blonde is the most recessive. In the simple high school biology explaination, it would be possible if one parent had black with a blonde recessive trait and the otehr had brown with a blonde recessive trait.

If that was not true, then I always thought she dyed it blonde to match Lucius and the "Malfoy" heritage. It is obvious she did not really give two bits about being a Black. >< I think about this way, way too much.

My personal canon for why Narcissa's blonde.

For the impatient/folks who don't like awesomely awesome fanworks told via watercolor: Narcissa dyed her hair blonde b/c that's what Lucius likes.

It was recced to me by a friend who somehow manages to find the most amazing fanworks in any given fandom. She pointed out that HP fandom is a different animal; you won't usually see fanworks like that for other fandoms. This particular one just happens to be full of win and awesome, so I spread the love whenever and wherever I can.

Yeah, I've always had this crazy soft spot for characters who sacrifice everything they are for a cause because there is no other way, even if the cause (like this) is a bad one. And the art was utterly bewitching.

Ooooh, yeah. I don't usually like dark stuff (and violence in watercolor is surprisingly disturbing), but that was just SO GOOD in more ways than one. I'm beginning to wonder if I should have "warned" for it, but I do think the opening panels give a sense of what's to come. I mean, if the URL (hp_darkfic) doesn't on its own.

So: Dark can sometimes be v. v. good. IMO/YMMV/whatevs.

She looks like what I always pictured Bellatrix would look like before they cast Helena Bonham Carter. Like a woman whose looks have faded a bit over the years, but she still remains attractive. But you could tell that she used to look really good when she was younger.

Er, Narcissa was described as being beautiful, they made Helen look like McGonagall's haggy older sister and I don't recall her having a skunk-do either
