I got into Kingdom Hearts because of a fic I read.

I got into Hunger Games because of a fan version of one of the book's songs.

I started playing at least 2 games after artists I followed drew pretty fanart for them and was ultimately convinced to read the Silmarillion because I wanted to know who the people in other pretty fanart were.

I got into Supernatural thanks to some Dean/Cas fics. Shame I can't remember any of the titles now.

I actually originally decided to read the Silmarillion because I loved a couple of Celebrimbor-centric fanfics so much and wanted to learn more about his character.

Teen Wolf for sure. Ashamed to say that I've still never watched the show and am purely into the fanfic because of the actors' looks. Does that count?

There's...uh...there's a couple games I got into because of porn. (Mass Effect (such an attractive cast) and Watch Dogs (Clara is super hot).)

Off the top of my head. If it wasn't because it was a secret here, i went ahead and found fic first, and then entered the media.

I typed out some things and then realised that I got into some of my favourite japanese media ever from fanwork.
But this trend hasn't applied to other cultures' media. Like I got into Welcome to Nighvale slightly ahead of its fandom boom (like, by a week) because a friend reccomended it and same for the magnus archives (exept I was a bit more ahead of the boom). Those are ones I could very easily have joined because the fanwwork intrigued me.

What are some of your favorite internet stories about cool/funny things people have done (with varying levels of believability)? I have a few.

SW Sequels, obviously. Han isn't Dead, Luke didn't become... that. Mara Jade still exists.

Last season of Dexter - If I don't watch it Deb isn't dead.

3rd Godfather Movie

Literally everything - Every Single Page - of Kevin Smiths Spiderman / Black Cat story (The evil that men do). Straight up didn't happen. No one has done Felicia Hardy dirtier. Not even Dan Slott. In fact lets go further than that. Literally every mainstream Spiderman comic from One My Day onward. The spider marriage is still a thing, and wasn't torn down by an insecure editor in a mid life crisis.

I'm sure I can think for more.
