I respect people's preferences for top/bottom in their ships. But every time I see someone mention that Stolas canonically
bottoms to Blitzo, it's followed by a dozen replies from people
arguing that it's impossible, because he's taller/more pushy
and enthusiastic about sex, and that makes me want to erase
from existence every fanwork, where Stolas is remotely toppy

makes sense. Top/bottom preferences are *personal preferences* based on *what turns the reader and/or writer on* and people need to understand and respect that. And not accuse people who have *preferences based on their ability to become aroused by something* of not being a true shipper or of fetishizing gay men.

However,it's also uncommon in most of the mainstream source material most people are talking about, for a *character's* top/bottom preferences to be explicitly canon. It's not an argument anyone can win and we look stupid trying.

Re: your second point, in the case of these particular character they've explicitly stated it on their official instragram accounts, which is why it comes up more often in fandom discussions.

There is a HUGE difference between "I enjoy it more this way" and "That is impossible because you can't be a 'bottom' and be tall/assertive."

We can just Avatar Kyoshi those 'impossible' fans out to sea. And by that I really mean Block Them And Enjoy Your Life.
