One: This isn't so much about difference of opinions as it is, imo, about the absolute inconsolable demands most people make of writers/creators that genuinely cannot abide by. Sure nobody will be satisfied, but even children can see what's right in front of them. Something most critics don't seem to hold the ability for. Most of those jackasses don't even know the difference between want/need, canon/fanon. It's pathetic.

Two: Death threats have always been around. It used to be a but of fun to be made, but times changed very fucking quickly went people sincerely made them.

Three: There is a middle ground. Basic logic is the key here. Representation isn't essentially necessary. A show cannot be called bad (or more likely: homophobic, sexist, or whatever the fuck ever) simply because it does not offer a token all of the above. Nothing about media implies that it must take a PC test especially at the expense of the characters/storyline. The second people stop necessitating every little thing is when people stop looking for them. etc..

Basically, there is no escaping the resounding drawl for more of this and that. The problem is that this insistence comes from a places of racism and phobia. Beyond even token characters, people have decided that various treatments to any given character is fundamentally wrong. So they make rules- gays cannot die- for instance, that regardless of the reasons/stoyline that built up to such an arch- the simple matter that it falls into a conveniently hated trope is enough to call off all the stops.
