eh some of this is dependent on the media you watch. in the west? yes, men really don't touch much, actually most characters that aren't romantically involved barely touch at all tbh. but in a lot of eastern asian shows the men touch a lot and are very huggy, same with the women, it's not just the province of romance and families.

it's one of the most startling things i notice after i've binged a bunch of k-dramas is how little every touches in western shows. it seems to be saved for romantic couples or sibs.

I agree, although I think tv is more touchy than movies and this is true in the West too. I was watching Bong Joon-ho's filmography, and his dudes aren't very touchy. Wong Kar-wai's stuff doesn't seem very touchy either, but I've only seen like two movies, so I'll have to see more.
