For me, it's not only Aladdin but also Phoebus, Prince Eric, Prince Phillip, Captain Shang, Hamada Tadashi, and Kristoff.

Prince Phillip for me.

And Sleeping Beauty was released decades before I first watched as a child. Aladdin, Prince Eric, Li Shang, and Robin Hood (yes, the fox one) round out my Disney animated top five.

Aladdin and Prince Eric for me! And...uh, the Beast, but only as the Beast... And yes, Robin Hood too.

I swear I'm not a furry.

Same (I blame the voice actors), minus Prince Eric. He's a complete buffoon. Can we replace him with Simba?

(Anonymous) 2020-12-31 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, no. Because Simba is a cat, and I hate cats. Also he was voiced by JTT, who I never liked. But YOU can replace him, if you want.

AYRT

lol fair. The voice actor I was referring to for Simba however was Matthew Broderick -- I had no idea who JTT was until today lol

Aladdin's dad tho??? instant crush

(Anonymous) 2020-12-31 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Aladdin has a DAD??

(Anonymous) 2020-12-31 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT

Yes he does, a fine ass one at that. Look him up -- Cassie. Add him to your sugar daddy list lol

Well, this is probably only because you're young? Aladdin was never not cool, right? I mean, I agree wholeheartedly.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-31 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Aladdin's cool, but Shang will always have my heart.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-31 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Shang for me.

There's A Connection Here...

...in that both characters were specifically designed to be attractive to women. Aladdin had a redesign after his initial look was deemed not good-looking enough, and Flynn was literally designed by a bunch of female staff at Disney taking using parts of photographs of different mens' faces to make a collage of the perfect man. (Apparently while the male animators watched in horror at the idea that women can be shallow.)

That's all the more galling considering the reason they held that meeting was because the directors thought Rapunzel's design was hot and Flynn needed to be up to her level.

And didn't they name it Tangled specifically because they were afraid boys wouldn't be interested in watching if it was named after a girl? Men are so weak.

So fecking true. Men are pathetic.

All this tells me is that female animators seems to really have the hots for smarm brows.

Nah, they deliberately animated him roguish. That has nothing to do with the initial aesthetics chosen.

(Anonymous) 2020-12-31 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
I like both but Aladdin does have dibs on being first. I also liked Shang a lot. Prince Phillip has a special place in my heart because I saw Cinderella first, and even though it's my favorite Disney princess film, even as a kid I knew the Prince in Cinderella had literally no character. Same with Snow White. So when I saw Sleeping Beauty (one of the other old ones), and Prince Phillip comes along and has a personality so I've always liked him.

I think Philip was an apology on the animators' part for the first Charmings. They specifically cut screen time for them down because they felt insecure about their abilities to draw non-caricatured men.
