A good beta is gold. In the obvious way of seeing the grammar and spelling and punctuation stuff that slipped past when you're 'in the groove', but a really good beta can also help with continuity, and make sure that you're not leaving stuff out that makes the readers confused, or changing up tenses, dropping stitches in the plot, etc.

I have always had my stuff beta'd and write better because of it.
