This is why I love working on my girlfriend's fics! We tend to write in different fandoms, but I love helping shape the fic from a vague idea to a really good story. And then I get to enjoy her enjoying her comments and kudos.

In short, I recommend partnering up with a writer. (Well, I'm also a writer, but not nearly as prolific.)
