Periodic reminder that the nebulousness of the term "anti" is deliberate, as bad actors on both sides of the associated discourse benefit from "I will dox you and send you death threats if I personally dislike your ship" being indistinguishable from "I don't want open pedophiles in my fandom spaces".


While this statement is technically true, most antis claim to be the latter only. So they've watered down the meaning of "pedophilia" so much that I am now very very deeply cynical and skeptical about accusations of pedophilia in fandom. Because 95.8% of the time, there's no evidence whatsoever of that person being any real danger to any real children, they just draw the "wrong" anime characters kissing.

False accusations of pedophilia are themselves a potentially life-destroying act of cruelty, and far worse than any of the art or fic they're screaming about.

So really all they've accomplished is making reports of the real thing more difficult to have taken seriously. That doesn't help make a safe space for anyone at all except predators.

You are definitely spending your time in a different corner of the internet than us. Not that we haven't seen baseless accusations of pedophilia over harmless art; this is still the internet and we are queer. But there are plenty of people wearing "MAP" and other unambiguous pedo shit like it's a badge of pride. And those people say the same stuff about "antis" as do people who just want to write properly-tagged fiction, and this is intentional.

Well, I'm on Twitter and Tumblr too. Sure, there are some people who do that. Report and block and move on. The thing about antis being absolute shits is true no matter who says it - and frankly, I've seen just as many antis eventually being outed as grooming or being inappropriate with kids as anyone else. In fact, it's the perfect cover - "Look at those gross creeps over there. Pedophilia is EVERYWHERE! Look! (shows them lots of things that are not, in fact, pedophilia) You're in danger! But you can trust me! I'm safe! I hate them too! Confide in me and I'll protect you."

If I were looking to groom kids, earn their trust, and creep on them, that's exactly what I would do. I would NOT put MAP in my profile!

Also there are predators who pretend to be kids online to get other kids' trust. Anybody can put "15" in their bio. Doesn't mean they are. Kids need to learn to not take stuff like that at face value.
