Also, part of being a good beta reader is respecting what the writer wants from their writing. Often, what the writer wants may not be what's best for the writing. What the writer wants may be melodramatic, or OOC, or unrealistic, or repetitious, or whatever. But it's what they want. And while a good beta can maybe help make what the author wants into the best version of itself, it's not the beta's place to make the fic "better" by making it less like the author wants it to be.

DA - indeed. And the OP would clearly make an awful beta for this reason (and many others).

Being a good beta reader also requires being able to tell the difference between changes that would be best for the story, and changes that would bring it more in line with what you personally prefer. The overall tone of the secret doesn't give me any confidence that OP has that sort of self-awareness.
