those who think creating something new automatically makes them better than the plebs consuming it.

There are plenty of ways to meaningfully contribute and participate in fandom besides just creating something. Judging by the OP's tone and attitude, I'm guessing they do not, and I have no respect for people who think they have a right to judge amateur creators for something they won't even risk doing themselves.
