Unfortunately I've seen too many people say things along those lines unironically. And like... while I don't like the XiaoYang ship (is that the ship name) I don't have any issues with people who ship it but why would anyone think this is anything but a fucked up mess?

I totally get shipping it because of that and pretending it's some kind of consensual fluff fest is just bizarre to me because why do you like the ship if you have to change the dynamics beyond recognition?

Right? XueXiao (pretty sure that's it) is interesting to me BECAUSE of how fucked-up it is. Having your enemy living in your house pretending to be someone else is straight up thriller stuff and I love it. Take that away and it's...not really much of anything.

I hope people who say that are joking, but even so... that's not a very good joke. I'm very much a ship-and-let-ship person but losing sight of the fact that Xue Yang is alllll kinds of messed up and any ship with him in it (much less with Xiao Xingchen under those circumstances) would be fucked up is weird. Like, isn't that why people get into it in the first place?

I wish I had never discovered this part of fandom because the sheer amount of 'Song Lan is bitter', 'Song Lan ruined everything', 'Song Lan is jealous' is tiring. And the people who do it will say over and over that they don't hate him and it's just a joke but not ONCE have I seen them drag any of the other characters the way they do Song Lan. It's outright malicious and they tag it constantly.

People say plenty of horrible things about Xue Yang though? I don't see what the big deal is if people try to defend him.
