They didn't even do basic research. The Arab characters are called Egyptian, but the clothes they use, the title of the main Arab character, and the stereotypes are more Saudi/Iraqi/etc. Egypt didn't use that particular title in the 80s, nor did most Egyptians dress the way they showed. It was just one massive stereotype of the Middle East with the Egypt name slapped on for some reason.

They went full stereotype. They could have just googled the words 'Egypt 1980's political climate' and 'Egypt 1980's social climate' and discovered that Egypt was a democracy and that wearing a hijab was being debated at the time.

But hey at least they got that US 80's aesthetic right (sort of).

God what a mess.
