I don't know anything about this series, but people make it sound like a 19th century version of Gossip Girl (with plenty of sex, of course).

I think that's literally the elevator pitch for the show

the book series is actually pre-gossip girl and famous in romantic circles so I actually wouldn't be surprised if the gossip girl books series was actually modeled on the Bridgerton series and we've come full circle.

That's pretty cool!

I hadn't thought of it that way, but you're not wrong, OP.

Well...

I went back and forth with this character, so you might be okay. I didn't like them as much as I thought I would've.

I'll spoiler warn just in case this isn't vauge enough

well no this isn't going to end well for you. the book makes it clear that the person is self-hating and miserable because they feel trapped, and that's the primary motivation here, but there's not much consequence beyond the central romantic conflict for this character and the romantic conflict will be central at one point or another and resolve happily for this character so....sorry. I don't mind them, but I understand why you would.

If it is who they implied it is in the final ep of the season, and it's not just a red herring or something, then I, for one, am a bit disappointed. I haven't read the books, so I don't know if it's the same person or not, but I would have preferred it be someone else as I wanted a better story than that for this character.

Also disappointed it was (potentially) revealed already. I wanted a longer mystery than that.

I mean, if you watched the show, you'd actually know who it is by the end of the season (it's eight episodes, you couldn't wait to do a fandom secret for eight episodes?), so... yeah.

Paying attention, what even is that?
