Is Ferngully a bad movie? Sure it's not like... critically acclaimed, but it sits very comfortably in the average-to-slightly-above-average pantheon.

As far as genuinely terrible kids' movies, I actually loved Turtles in Time, lol. My love for TMNT overrode the nonsensical garbage I was seeing, so I was defo just like hey!! it's Leonardo but he's a samurai!!

OP: I tried to rewatch it as an adult and couldn't even finish it. And I loved it as a kid. So maybe it's just me cringing at my younger self.

That could be! I think maybe the fact that it was one of those you watched over and over could be part of it too; I subjected my parents to infinite rewatches of Beauty and the Beast, so I get that little twinge of retroactive embarrassment when I see it now, haha.

I loved it as a kid and found it to be INCREDIBLY boring as an adult. The Neverending Story is the same way.
