Yeah, I saw the way my back yard looked at 2am last night and basically decided "okay no matter how I feel in the morning, I have to go walk the trails before other people go human it all up." (I did see one family also walking out there, and we adults enthusiastically exclaimed how awesome it was while the toddler told me "hiiiiiii!" repeatedly. :D) Absolutely worth it, and fortunately I wasn't feeling TOO terrible, and there was barely any wind to mess with my ability to breathe.

That there was straight off the camera without any adjustment, would probably look even nicer if I adjusted the brightness to more what it really looked like in person. Everything was so white out there I had to let my eyes adjust once I got back in my car.

It looks really peaceful. I love still wintry scenes like this. I'd always tried to go to the park after the rare snowfall, but never quite made it. On the other hand, I'm just happy to see any snow (though right now I'd settle for an ice storm if it'll kill off the damn bugs... yeah, I know, quit tempting power outages in winter when you don't have a fireplace...)

Oh we got the ice storm yesterday. ;)

I wish I'd had more spoons to go out and take pics of it, but since I'd spent an hour out in the cold in thin pleather gloves and 6in platform boots the afternoon before, then spent the rest of the day recovering, I figured I better take it easy, only got a handful of shots close to the parking lot.

I have the feeling this is why the snow today was sticking to everything so awesomely - it was hovering around freezing and raining all yesterday, then started snowing last night while everything was still wet over ice.

That's so cool.
I miss snow (really good snows, like 10, 12 inches) so much.
I used to go for walks for hours in the woods around the house I grew up in, out in that blazing-bright snow under a sunny sky, that was always *so* amazing.

Or going for a walk in the twilight, when the shadows are all blue, and the cold is crisping the air in your nose, and it's so, so quiet...

Maybe I should go for a walk tomorrow, myself. Down by the river. :D

Always something I'd encourage. ;)

Yeah, there was a reservoir near my parents' house when I was a kid that was my favorite place to wander around. Then I just didn't have anything like that close to me for years... then I moved into this neighborhood ten years ago this year, and had gotten out of the habit. Till Pokemon Go dragged me out to look around the park a couple blocks away, and just this summer I got up the nerve to go all the way around the trails. Health problems mean I don't want to get too far from my car, in case things go bad suddenly, but turns out it's only about a 20-30 minute walk and there's cell service the whole way, so if I collapse and literally can't get back up, I can call someone in my neighborhood and have them there in about 15 minutes.

And I mean, days like this? Worth risking it. Can't wait to see it in spring, too. Wish I'd had the energy to go out to another park after this one, my area has some really nice ones. =)

Nice!
There are a lot of things 'around' me, but the majority of them take a drive to get to, which I'm not always willing to do. In the last five years or so, we finally got some sidewalk put in along the stretch of Route 66 that goes in front of my house, but it doesn't go all the way to the river/park, which kinda sucks. Soon, though, they say.

I grew up in the woods, and spent most of my time out in it, and really do miss being able to just walk around in the trees and such and not have to worry about any people at all.

I'm glad you found a place to walk that accommodates a possible health emergency. Nice!

Amusingly, I wound up this morning going for another such walk in the fresh snowfall from last night despite knowing it would make me slightly "late" for church (via YouTube so I can technically attend whenever, but I like knowing others are watching at the same time). Got home, and my pastor who grew up up north with 40 acres of forest in his back yard... had recorded his sermon while walking around his parents' old homestead and talking about being a kid and wandering aimlessly in the woods and being excited about whatever you find.

So I guess I was actually early for church, since I got home later than expected due to seeing something swimming in the creek and stopping to take video of it. (Verdict from FB friends is it's a muskrat or possibly very young beaver.)

I wish I'd done more of this when I was young and able-bodied, but I'll try to make up for it now. Hoping my guts will let me out to another park today, since I have to drive further out to buy gas somewhere anyway. =)

Aw, how neat! :D
It's a lovely way to start the day. We had freezing fog this morning.
*sigh*

Oh well! It's a new year.
