Re: How Are We Doing?
(Anonymous) 2021-01-03 02:26 am (UTC)(link)That there was straight off the camera without any adjustment, would probably look even nicer if I adjusted the brightness to more what it really looked like in person. Everything was so white out there I had to let my eyes adjust once I got back in my car.

I wish I'd had more spoons to go out and take pics of it, but since I'd spent an hour out in the cold in thin pleather gloves and 6in platform boots the afternoon before, then spent the rest of the day recovering, I figured I better take it easy, only got a handful of shots close to the parking lot.
I have the feeling this is why the snow today was sticking to everything so awesomely - it was hovering around freezing and raining all yesterday, then started snowing last night while everything was still wet over ice.
Re: How Are We Doing?
I miss snow (really good snows, like 10, 12 inches) so much.
I used to go for walks for hours in the woods around the house I grew up in, out in that blazing-bright snow under a sunny sky, that was always *so* amazing.
Or going for a walk in the twilight, when the shadows are all blue, and the cold is crisping the air in your nose, and it's so, so quiet...
Maybe I should go for a walk tomorrow, myself. Down by the river. :D
Re: How Are We Doing?
(Anonymous) 2021-01-03 04:45 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, there was a reservoir near my parents' house when I was a kid that was my favorite place to wander around. Then I just didn't have anything like that close to me for years... then I moved into this neighborhood ten years ago this year, and had gotten out of the habit. Till Pokemon Go dragged me out to look around the park a couple blocks away, and just this summer I got up the nerve to go all the way around the trails. Health problems mean I don't want to get too far from my car, in case things go bad suddenly, but turns out it's only about a 20-30 minute walk and there's cell service the whole way, so if I collapse and literally can't get back up, I can call someone in my neighborhood and have them there in about 15 minutes.
And I mean, days like this? Worth risking it. Can't wait to see it in spring, too. Wish I'd had the energy to go out to another park after this one, my area has some really nice ones. =)
Re: How Are We Doing?
There are a lot of things 'around' me, but the majority of them take a drive to get to, which I'm not always willing to do. In the last five years or so, we finally got some sidewalk put in along the stretch of Route 66 that goes in front of my house, but it doesn't go all the way to the river/park, which kinda sucks. Soon, though, they say.
I grew up in the woods, and spent most of my time out in it, and really do miss being able to just walk around in the trees and such and not have to worry about any people at all.
I'm glad you found a place to walk that accommodates a possible health emergency. Nice!
Re: How Are We Doing?
(Anonymous) 2021-01-03 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)So I guess I was actually early for church, since I got home later than expected due to seeing something swimming in the creek and stopping to take video of it. (Verdict from FB friends is it's a muskrat or possibly very young beaver.)
I wish I'd done more of this when I was young and able-bodied, but I'll try to make up for it now. Hoping my guts will let me out to another park today, since I have to drive further out to buy gas somewhere anyway. =)
Re: How Are We Doing?
It's a lovely way to start the day. We had freezing fog this morning.
*sigh*
Oh well! It's a new year.
