107 - What do you call it when you het-ship real people? I suggest Real Person Shipping--oh, hey.

131 - Okay, I'm not going to say you're claiming this. But. Dude, that picture creeps me out. Being a healthy weight and fit is healthy, but just how thin that healthy weight is varies from person to person, and being underweight is just as unhealthy as being overweight. No, really. Overweight people are even more likely to survive their heart attacks, because both weighing too much and too little put you at risk for one. And the girl in that picture? Looks like she's heading for one to me.

137 - Why is this a secret? I thought everyone did that?

163 - See 137.

179 - I'm not a huge fan of Chuck. As a character, she just never did much for me. She was just sort of there. However, I am seriously disturbed by the implication that if the female love interest doesn't seem to love the main character back enough (and wtf, how is she supposed to show she loves him more?), then she's a waste of space is pretty damn skeevy.

179. None of the characters of the show grabbed me, but I had the same problems as you. I hope that's not what the OP means, and it's just a poorly worded secret.

[identity profile] sarolynne.livejournal.com 2009-01-11 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm definitely hoping that was meant to be two separate thoughts and they just sort of blurred together.

107 - I think the standard is RPF - Real Person Fiction

[identity profile] sarolynne.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
I find that rather unuseful, though. It only applies to one thing, rather than the act of shipping real people. It also seems like it would be confusing if you're dealing with media other than fanfiction--like art, or icons.

I generally hear RPF in reference to the stories, not the pairings.

[identity profile] dianadisaster.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with you there. Although I think of Slash as mainly fiction, anyway. I was just trying to answer your question, that in general people use RPF, because when I see RPS I just automatically assume the S stands for Slash.

I like the idea of using Real Person Shipping, but of course shipping can be het or slash, so it doesn't narrow it down at all. Why don't people just use RPH? Real Person Het?

long story short, secret poster is judgmental and lame. :D

[identity profile] sarolynne.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
I think we can both agree with that. :D

107 - When it's het or gen it's Real Person Fic or RPF

[identity profile] sarolynne.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
As I already said to the above commenter, Real Person Fic isn't very useful for talking about the act of shipping the two characters together, or other media, such as icons or art.

What's more, it's really problematic to lump het together with gen.

What's more, it's really problematic to lump het together with gen.

That's a bit silly. RPF is used to distinguish a genre of fanfiction, not specific subcategories within the genre.

[identity profile] sarolynne.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Then why is it separate from slash? Because that's all fanficion about real people. If slash is a separate category, then het and gen shouldn't be the same because they're *gasp!* not.
